College Sports Commission clears $227M in NIL deals

The College Sports Commission (CSC) cleared over $227 million in name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals during July and August. This figure nearly doubles the total value of all deals cleared during the commission’s entire first year of operation.

The surge in volume is attributed to increased staffing and a streamlined submission process via the NIL Go platform. The agency currently employs 29 full-time staff members, with 12 dedicated specifically to the NIL Go system. The CSC now processes an average of more than 200 deals per day, an increase from the 94 daily deals averaged during its inaugural year.

Of the $227 million in cleared deals, $188.6 million involved “associated entities,” which are individuals or companies with relationships to schools. The CSC evaluates these contracts to ensure they serve a legitimate purpose and represent fair market value. The remaining deals were between players and outside sponsors, categorized as “non-associated entities.” The commission was established following a lawsuit settlement to facilitate revenue-sharing systems and third-party sponsorships in college athletics.
