Collegiate golf: Delaware and George Washington secure tournament wins

Several collegiate golf tournaments concluded recently, highlighted by victories at the Mary Fossum Invitational and The Goat tournament.

At the Mary Fossum Invitational, the University of Delaware women’s golf team secured its first tournament win of the season, finishing with a team score of 23-over par. Sophomore Rhianna Gooneratne claimed individual medalist honors with an even-par 144. Other notable team performances included Central Michigan in second place and Bowling Green in a tie for fourth.

In the men’s division at The Goat tournament held at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club, George Washington University won the team title with a score of 4-over par, finishing three strokes ahead of Georgetown. The individual title was decided by a playoff, where University of Connecticut’s Kai Jun Huang defeated Georgetown’s Carson Erick and William & Mary’s Preston Burton to claim the championship.

Other collegiate results included Holy Cross finishing fifth at The Goat, while Villanova and William & Mary both secured top-ten team finishes in the same event.
