Collegiate cross country programs have received preseason rankings ahead of the 2026 season.

Christopher Newport University's men's team was ranked fifth in the USTFCCCA South Regional preseason poll, marking a five-spot jump from their previous season ranking. The women's team maintained its position at sixth in the same regional poll.

In the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) preseason poll, the University of North Carolina women's program was ranked third, following NC State and Notre Dame. The Tar Heels' men's program was placed eighth in the conference rankings.
