Collegiate golf teams compete in fall tournament openers

In recent collegiate golf tournament action, St. Lawrence University and Lafayette College competed in their respective fall openers.

At the Williams Fall Invitational held at the Taconic Golf Course, St. Lawrence University men’s golf finished the first two rounds in 11th place with a combined score of 601. First-year player Joey Degnan led the team, finishing tied for 26th place at six over par. Other notable performances for the Saints included Kevin Dillon, who tied for 30th, and Charles Novak, who tied for 32nd.

Lafayette College competed in the Doc Glimmer Invitational hosted by St. John’s University. The team finished in a tie for eighth place out of 14 teams with a two-round total of 15-over-par. The tournament was cut short when heavy rain rendered the Bethpage State Park Golf Course unplayable for the final round on Sunday. Junior Reed Theiss led the Leopards individually at 11-under par, while sophomore Chris Vaйha finished one-over-par.
