Collegiate sports: Norwich football and UNH women's hockey suffer losses

In collegiate football, the Norwich University Cadets lost their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener against the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a score of 44-9. The Mariners utilized a strong rushing attack, totaling 321 yards on 57 attempts and scoring six touchdowns on the ground. Norwich managed nine points, including a safety and a 53-yard touchdown drive.

In women's ice hockey, the University of New Hampshire Wildcats fell 3-1 to the University of St. Thomas. After trailing in the first period, New Hampshire tied the game in the second via a goal from Danika Botterill. However, St. Thomas regained the lead in the third period and secured the win with a final goal in the closing seconds of the game. UNH goaltender Noemi Martinez recorded 27 saves in the contest.
