Collegiate sports updates from UC Santa Barbara and Santa Clara

At the UC Santa Barbara Invitational, Santa Clara University's men's tennis team secured three victories on the opening day. Adam FaragCao and Valentin Faure earned their first collegiate win together by defeating UCSB's Charlie Underwood and Lorenzo Brunkow 8-7 (7-4) in the top flight A quarterfinals. In singles competition, Lukas Maskow defeated Cal Poly's Raz Haviv in three sets, and Tiago Boschmans beat Ernst Gouws of Cal Poly in straight sets.

In men's water polo, the No. 12 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos lost their Big West season opener to No. 16 California Baptist with a score of 14-12. Despite a strong performance in the second and third quarters that allowed the Gauchos to take a 6-5 lead, the team struggled with offensive fouls and a lack of late-game shot quality, ultimately allowing the Lancers to secure the win.
