Collegiate volleyball: GVSU sweeps conference openers as Michigan State remains undefeated

In collegiate volleyball action, Grand Valley State University (GVSU) opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with two consecutive sweeps. The No. 19 ranked Lakers defeated Lake Superior State University 25-14, 25-11, 25-6 before securing a victory against Wayne State University. Brianna Stawski led GVSU with nine kills and three blocks, while sophomore Lexi Armstrong recorded a team-high 18 digs.

Michigan State University maintained an undefeated season, moving to 9-0 following a four-set victory over Oakland University (25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 25-21). This marks the first time the Spartans have started a season 9-0 in back-to-back years since 1975-76. Junior middle blocker Carmen Waye recorded a career-high double-double with 16 kills and 10 blocks.
