Collegiate athletics: Mixed results in volleyball and football

Various collegiate athletic competitions took place across several regional tournaments. In volleyball, the University of Texas at Tyler Patriots maintained an undefeated season after sweeping Mississippi Christian 3-0 at the Reddie-Tiger Invitational.

At the Best Western Invitational, Bowling Green State University secured a 3-1 victory over Northern Kentucky, improving their record to 5-1. However, the Falcons also suffered a five-set loss to Arkansas State, marking the Red Wolves' first victory of the season.

Alabama State University's women's volleyball team faced a difficult stretch, recording losses against West Florida, South Carolina Upstate, and Gardner-Webb. In football, Alabama State secured a 34-0 shutout victory against Lane College in their home opener.

In other news, Lane College, a Division II school from West Tennessee, was defeated by Alabama State, which moved to a 2-0 start for the season.
