Collegium Academicum outlines plans for historic buildings
Collegium Academicum has released updated plans for its existing historic buildings as construction on its new facility begins. The project focuses on repurposing the large historic building and a former gatehouse located on the former US Hospital conversion site in Heidelberg.
The large building, which currently houses a workshop with a CNC milling machine, will serve as construction site offices, timber storage, and meeting spaces during the building phase. In the long term, it is intended to provide living and social space for students, apprentices, and young professionals, specifically accommodating approximately 50 people participating in an orientation year.
The former gatehouse is expected to be used temporarily by other initiatives. The organization is currently in discussions with interested groups and the City of Heidelberg's interim use team to potentially establish a reading cafe and workshop spaces in the structure.
