Collins Aerospace awarded $472M US Army contract for Chinook modernization

The US Army has awarded Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX, a contract valued at up to $472 million to modernize and sustain the CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopter fleet. The contract focuses on providing engineering services to upgrade the aircraft’s avionics architecture.

The modernization effort aims to address system obsolescence and integrate new capabilities more efficiently. By utilizing an open and reusable avionics architecture, the Army intends to create a more flexible electronic foundation. This approach is designed to simplify the integration of future hardware and software, reducing complexity and improving cost and schedule efficiency.

Beyond the Chinook program, the initiative seeks to establish greater consistency and commonality across the Army’s broader aviation fleet. Work related to this contract will be conducted in Huntsville, Alabama, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
