Colmenar Nativo targets Japanese market with specialty honeys

Colmenar Nativo, a family-owned apiary from Arauco in Chile's Biobío Region, is seeking to expand into the Japanese market. Owners Ruth Sanhueza and Luis Velásquez participated in business meetings with Kumamoto-based companies Sugi Bee Garden and Echoe Co. during the Espacio Food & Service International Fair, facilitated by ProChile.

The company focuses on value-added products, including honeys infused with wild fruits like maqui and murta, as well as hazelnut, ginger, and citrus. Their product line also extends to pollen, propolis sprays, beeswax candles, and cosmetic items such as shampoos and creams. Supported by the Institute of Agricultural Development (INDAP), the business operates 220 hives and expects a production of 8,000 kilograms of honey this year. Following recent sales to the United States via Amazon, the company aims to continue its international expansion.
