Colón celebrates 476 years of history and official recognition of its origins

The municipality of Colón officially recognized its historical origins and celebrated 476 years of history during a Solemn Session of the Cabildo. Led by Municipal President Gaspar Trueba Moncada, the ceremony took place at the Jardín de la Plaza Fundadores.

The official declaration, read by Municipal Chronicler Cristóbal Vega Prado, traces the town's roots back to 1550, noting the importance of Hospada and the settlement of San Isidro, which led to Tolimanejo. The history of the region is marked by the arrival of travelers on the Ruta de Tierra Adentro and the subsequent integration of various settlements, including the Mission of Santo Domingo de Soriano and Tolimanejo, which officially became the Villa de Colón in 1882.

Rubén Camacho Jiménez, Secretary of Innovation, Culture, and Education, emphasized that this legacy represents the perseverance of generations and the preservation of the Otomí-Chichimeca identity. The commemoration also acknowledged the contributions of various local citizen collectives, such as the Asociación Raíces and the Comité del Museo Comunitario, in maintaining the municipality's cultural memory.
