Colón Council debates closure of recycling cooperative
The Colón Deliberative Council is debating the closure of a recycling cooperative operating at the local landfill. The Nuevos Aires bloc requested a formal report following a visit by Councilor Milagros Morales, who observed closed facilities and a significant accumulation of recyclable materials outside the site.
Official representatives, including Nahuel Desimone, stated that the contract was rescinded because the cooperative failed to meet agreed-upon conditions despite previous warnings. The municipality is currently preparing a new bidding process to manage recycling and landfill sanitation. Opposition members have criticized the move, arguing that replacing one cooperative with another does not address the underlying systemic failures in waste treatment and the ongoing issues with the open-air landfill.
