Colón students build recycled wood stoves for donation

Students at the Escuela de Educación Técnica N° 1 Doctor Herminio Juan Quirós in Colón are manufacturing wood-burning stoves, known as salamandras, using recycled materials. The project is part of the professionalizing practices for 5th, 6th, and 7th-year students.

The stoves are constructed from recycled car tires and metal sheets donated by a local metallurgical company. Once completed, the units will be donated to Cáritas, which will coordinate their distribution to families in need. To ensure safety, students are also providing a brochure with recommendations for the correct and safe use of the equipment.

Coordinated by Professor Leonardo Besson, the initiative aims to combine technical training with social commitment. The school also engages in other community projects, such as repairing playground equipment and local agricultural machinery.
