The anti-war alliance 'Rheinmetall entwaffnen' has announced a six-day protest camp in Cologne, scheduled to run from September 1 to September 6. The group intends to use the camp to oppose both German and global rearmament efforts.

Demonstrations are specifically planned for September 1 and September 5, a schedule confirmed by local police. This follows a period of significant unrest last year, where protesters targeted Bundeswehr buildings and the private residence of Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger.

Last year's demonstrations involved violent clashes between protesters and police. According to police reports, 13 officers were injured, including three seriously, while at least nine participants sustained injuries. Following those events, NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul criticized police tactics regarding the containment of protesters, noting that the provision of water and sanitation facilities was not handled within an appropriate timeframe.
