Cologne court hears case of furniture store robbery
A 61-year-old man appeared before the Cologne District Court regarding a robbery committed in April at a furniture store in Frechen. The defendant, a long-term employee of the establishment, is accused of robbing approximately 40,000 euros from the company's safe while armed with a soft air pistol.
During the trial, the defendant testified that he disposed of 13,000 euros of the stolen loot in a clothing container. He claimed he acted out of extreme financial distress following costly renovations to his parents' home and cited regular cocaine use as a factor. He also admitted to attempting to deposit 9,000 euros into his bank account shortly after the incident.
