Cologne urban plan proposes relocating central station
Architect Paul Böhm has proposed a radical urban redevelopment plan for Cologne known as ‘Neue Mitte Köln’ (New Center Cologne). The central component of this vision involves relocating the Cologne Central Station and its long-distance rail services to the right bank of the Rhine.
This relocation aims to transform the city's historical core by repurposing the existing station hall into a cultural and marketplace hub. Additionally, the plan envisions turning the Hohenzollern Bridge into a green park space. The proposal seeks to address urban stagnation through large-scale visionary planning rather than minor incremental corrections.
