Cologne Zoo announces birth of rare Persian leopard

The Cologne Zoo has announced the successful birth and development of a female Persian leopard named Arya. The cub, born three months ago, is now fully vaccinated and appearing in the outdoor enclosure with her mother, Mitra.

Due to the father, Grom, having lacked typical social behaviors because he was hand-raised, natural reproduction was not possible. The zoo team successfully utilized artificial insemination, a method that has only achieved success with Persian leopards three times worldwide. Both parents hold significant genetic value for the conservation of this critically endangered subspecies.
