Cologne's Zollstocker Dienstagszug parade canceled for 2027
The Zollstocker Dienstagszug, a carnival parade in Cologne that has been a tradition for approximately 65 years, has been canceled for 2027. The organizers, Freunde des Zollstocker Dienstagszuges, announced the decision due to significant economic challenges.
Chairman Michael Siegenbruck cited a “financing catastrophe” caused by the rising costs of security services and increasingly strict regulatory requirements. The association noted that the annual cost to run the parade is approximately 13,000 euros. In addition to security expenses, the organizers are struggling with a lack of volunteers and financial difficulties among participating groups, including two schools and the Fidele Fortuna association.
The parade saw a record of around 1,500 participants in 2024, but the cumulative pressure of rising safety mandates and dwindling community support has made the 2027 event unsustainable.
