Cologno Monzese to install radar-equipped traffic lights for pedestrian safety

The municipality of Cologno Monzese has announced the experimental installation of a “pedestrian-saving” traffic light system at the intersection of Viale Lombardia with Via Levi and Via Rossini. This measure follows two fatal accidents involving pedestrians on this road between 2022 and 2025.

The new system, utilizing Advanced Speed System (SAV) technology provided by A2A, features two radars—one for each direction of travel. If a vehicle exceeds the 50 km/h speed limit, the traffic light will automatically turn red to halt circulation at the intersection.

In addition to the radar system, modifications are being made to raised pedestrian crossings. Following requests from ATM to ensure smooth transit for public transport, the municipality is adjusting the slopes and lengths of these crossings to accommodate bus movement.
