Colombia: 21‑year‑old pregnant woman murdered, fetus taken from her abdomen

María Camila Potosí, a 21‑year‑old woman eight months pregnant, disappeared on 16 July 2026 after leaving her home in the Meléndez neighbourhood of Cali for a prenatal check‑up. Her body was later found with multiple stab wounds and the fetus removed from her abdomen. Police say several attackers were involved and continue to search for the missing baby, offering a reward of $62,000 for information leading to arrests and the infant’s recovery.

Potosí’s mother, Alba Gómez, pleaded publicly for the safe return of her granddaughter, while Colombian senators and former presidential candidate Sondra Meckelins called for swift justice. Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder and police commander Herbert Benavídez confirmed the investigation is ongoing, but no suspects have been identified yet.
