Colombia activates search protocols for missing aircraft

Colombia's Civil Aeronautics authority has activated Search and Rescue (SAR) protocols following the loss of communication with an aircraft, registration HK4985. The plane was operating a flight from Condoto, Chocó, to Guaymaral, Bogotá, on the morning of Sunday, September 13, 2026.

There were five people on board, including one pilot and four passengers. The aircraft was serving the Colombian Civil Air Patrol. The last known communication occurred at 9:23 a.m. Following this, an emergency signal was detected near Cerro Tatamá, a mountainous area in the Coffee Axis region near Pereira.

The signal was located approximately 33 miles from the Pereira VOR. Search efforts face significant challenges due to the difficult, mountainous terrain in the area where the signal was received.
