Colombia addresses labor market and technical education reforms

In Colombia, experts and lawmakers are addressing structural challenges in the labor market and education systems to improve employability and productivity.

Anif and Asocajas recently hosted a seminar in Bogotá titled “The Future of Employment in Colombia.” The discussion focused on the accuracy of labor market measurements, the impact of technological disruption, and the need to address issues such as informality and wage compression. Participants emphasized that official statistics alone are insufficient and that a multi-source approach is necessary to respond effectively to technological changes.

Simultaneously, a new legislative initiative named “Miguel Uribe Turbay Technical Education” has been introduced in Congress. The bill aims to reorganize technical training by establishing a National Technical Training Subsystem. The proposal seeks to align educational programs with market demands, recognize prior experience, and elevate the status of technical and technological careers to enhance national competitiveness.
