Colombia adds nonstop flights to Spain and the United States and sees 41% rise in Colombia‑Mexico capacity

Colombia has launched several new nonstop international routes. World2Fly began a weekly Madrid‑Cartagena service on an Airbus A350, marking the first direct Europe‑Cartagena flight. United Airlines announced nonstop flights from Houston and Washington D.C. to Cartagena, becoming the first U.S. carrier to serve the city without stops. Avianca will start daily nonstop flights from Fort Lauderdale to Barranquilla in 2026, further expanding the country’s Atlantic coast connections.

During the opening weeks of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, air capacity on the Colombia‑Mexico corridor surged. IATA reported a 41% increase in daily frequencies and a 44% rise in seats between 12 June and 16 June, with Viva Aerobus launching its inaugural Mexico City‑Medellín service. The growth continued through June‑July, indicating sustained demand for travel linked to the tournament.
