Colombia advances diplomatic agenda with Spain and Israel

Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula met with Spanish Ambassador Santiago Jiménez in Bogotá to coordinate the agenda for the upcoming Ibero-American Summit, scheduled for November 4-5 in Madrid. The discussions focused on territorial development cooperation and preparing concrete results for the summit of Heads of State and Government. Both nations reaffirmed their strategic partnership, emphasizing investment, cooperation, and combating transnational organized crime. Spain currently serves as the second-largest investor in Colombia.

Separately, Colombia has moved to restore diplomatic ties with Israel under President Abelardo de la Espriella. Following the restoration of relations in August 2026, the Colombian government inaugurated its embassy in Jerusalem on October 14. This diplomatic shift occurs alongside Israel's general elections on October 27, 2026, which will determine the composition of the Knesset and the subsequent executive leadership with whom Bogotá will engage.
