Colombia advances gender‑equality policy while film industry remains male‑dominated

Bogotá's Public Policy on Women and Gender Equality reports 83.98% implementation, exceeding its 78.47% target. The city logged 193,584 calls to the Violet Line, delivered 19,750 psychosocial sessions, facilitated 147,883 labor mediations, and provided entrepreneurship programs to 51,989 women. Additional support included housing subsidies for 28,565 female‑headed households and leadership training for 7,651 women.

A separate analysis of Colombia's audiovisual sector shows women account for only 28% of professionals and direct just 13% of the country’s films. Female participation is higher in documentary work (56%) but low in fiction and animation. Women wrote only 17% of the screenplays examined. Initiatives such as the University Nebrija's Chair in Cinema, Women and Education aim to increase female representation, while national programs like "El Gran Cine Femenino" seek to showcase women‑directed films.
