Colombia implements agricultural support and SME initiatives

The Colombian Ministry of Agriculture is implementing several measures to support the nation's agricultural and small business sectors. Minister Indalecio Dangond announced subsidized interest rate credit lines and debt restructuring for the flower industry to combat rising labor costs and exchange rate pressures. Additionally, the Ministry presented five strategic priorities to the Senate aimed at transforming the countryside through increased production, improved credit access for small producers, mechanization, irrigation, and land reform.

In the rice sector, the National Federation of Rice Growers (Fedearroz) has requested government refinancing due to a crisis caused by low harvest prices and environmental damage, such as flooding in Casanare. The federation is calling for the restoration of price reference mechanisms to protect producers from market volatility.

To support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a new free learning platform called Enko has been launched by CCO Credibanco and Visa. The platform provides training in financial education, digital transformation, and business management. Furthermore, initiatives like Rotorr are working to bridge the gap between academic research and practical innovation for Colombian SMEs.
