Colombia advances water infrastructure repairs in Buenaventura and Medellín

Authorities in Buenaventura reported significant progress in fixing the city’s water supply after a burst 39‑inch pipe left about 70% of its 340,000 residents without water since June 9. The district administration completed welding on the main conduit and is preparing pressure and stability tests before gradually restoring service, while tank trucks continue to provide water to hospitals, schools and vulnerable neighborhoods.

In Medellín, the municipal "Mi Río, Mis Quebradas" program has brought the La Honda stream canalisation project to 93% completion. The 298‑metre hydraulic channel and accompanying concrete structures aim to improve water flow, lower flood risk and benefit 32 families directly, with roughly 90 households and businesses gaining indirect advantages. The work also includes landscaping and public‑space improvements as part of a broader environmental recovery effort.
