Colombia air travel sees highest growth since 2014

Colombia's air transport sector saw significant growth in the first half of the year, mobilizing over 28 million passengers. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), this represents a 6.8% increase, marking the most substantial growth since 2014.

Domestic market figures rose from 15.3 million to 16.3 million passengers, while the international market grew by 4.9%, reaching 12.4 million. Domestic traffic was largely concentrated in five cities: Cali, Cartagena, Bogotá, Rionegro, and Santa Marta, which accounted for 70.9% of the total.

IATA officials noted that while the growth demonstrates the country's aerial connectivity potential, there is an urgent need for infrastructure to keep pace with demand. The organization has called on the government to work with the industry on a long-term agenda to expand airport capacity and ensure competitive conditions through flexible concession contracts and modern infrastructure.
