Colombia and Brazil post record fruit export growth in 2025‑2026

Colombia’s banana sector reached its highest recorded productivity in 2025, with yields of 2,524 boxes per hectare in the Caribbean region and 2,504 in Urabá. Production remained stable while exports grew about 20% in volume last year and surged 61% to April 2026, offsetting higher labor, service costs and a stronger peso. Analysts warn that a strong El Niño event in late‑2026 could threaten this momentum.

In Brazil, fruit exports in the first half of 2026 hit a new record, totalling USD 707.9 million and 619,100 tonnes—up 20.64% in value and 13.32% in volume versus the same period in 2025. Mangoes, avocados and watermelons led the gains, while apples posted the biggest jump, with value rising 223.55% and volume 225.11% due to a historic harvest. The sector credits ongoing technology investment and market diversification initiatives, despite logistical challenges linked to the Middle‑East conflict.
