Colombia and Chile report high informal employment rates

The Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE) in Colombia is preparing to publish an updated set of labour‑market indicators, including occupation, unemployment, participation and informal employment, based on the Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares. The data are widely used by the government, businesses, investors and analysts to assess the health of the economy and to design employment policies.

Chile's Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas (INE) released its latest Informal Labour Bulletin for the April‑June 2026 quarter. The report shows the informal employment rate at 27.0%, a one‑point rise from the previous year, representing 2.54 million workers (a 4.7% increase). National unemployment was 9.4%. Informality is concentrated among self‑employed workers (64.3% of the informal sector) and private‑sector salaried employees (16.2%). Women and workers aged 35‑44 recorded the strongest increases.
