Colombia and Ecuador coordinate humanitarian aid for earthquake victims

Humanitarian efforts are underway to support more than 9,000 residents across 20 communities in Colombia's central and northern Pacific regions following a recent earthquake and sea swell emergencies.

The Colombian Navy's ARC ‘Bahía Colombia’ has departed from Buenaventura to transport approximately 138 tons of essential supplies to eight distribution points, including Juanchaco, Nuquí, and Puerto Pizarro. This mission is a collaborative effort involving the Pacific Naval Force, various private foundations, and public and private entities to reach vulnerable families affected by the August 10 earthquake and subsequent maritime surges.

In a show of regional solidarity, the Ecuadorian government, under President Daniel Noboa, has also dispatched humanitarian aid to Colombia. This shipment, transported via land from Tulcán, includes over 138,000 hygiene items and 12 tons of shelter supplies. The coordination between the Ecuadorian National Risk Management Secretariat and Colombia's National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) facilitated the organized delivery of these resources.
