Colombia and France outline new scientific cooperation roadmap

Colombia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation met with Georges Lomné, president of the ECOS-Nord program, to review progress and define new opportunities for scientific cooperation between Colombia and France.

Led by Vice Minister César Guerrero, the meeting highlighted a partnership spanning nearly three decades. Between 1998 and 2024, ECOS-Nord supported 205 research projects, promoted academic mobility, and aided doctoral training. Currently, 15 projects are actively funded.

The future roadmap aims to maintain support for excellence in basic science while ensuring research responds to national needs and territorial requirements. Identified opportunities include expanding the program’s territorial reach, increasing participation from master’s and doctoral students, and driving innovation. Additionally, officials discussed using ECOS-Nord as a tool for scientific diplomacy, potentially through triangular cooperation projects connecting Colombia and France with other Latin American nations.
