Colombia and Israel partner to bring agricultural technology to La Guajira

Colombia and Israel are strengthening bilateral cooperation to modernize Colombian agriculture through the transfer of advanced technology and knowledge. During an official mission in Tel Aviv, Colombian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Indalecio Dangond met with Israeli Minister Avi Dicter and representatives from six specialized agricultural technology companies.

The collaboration focuses on implementing efficient irrigation and water management systems, specifically designed for semi-desert environments. A primary objective is to apply these technologies to the La Guajira department, which shares similar climatic conditions with parts of Israel. The initiative aims to improve production in challenging climates, including greenhouse farming, dairy cattle, and poultry.

Israeli officials announced the transfer of specialized water management and irrigation technologies as part of a joint program to be developed in the coming years. This partnership seeks to increase rural productivity and create employment opportunities within Colombian farming communities.
