Mexican institutions roll out LGBT+ and gender‑equality initiatives during Pride month

In San Luis Potosí, the state women’s secretariat and the civil association Mujeres Tejiendo Lazos held a conference titled “When the joke stops being a joke” to expose everyday hate speech and promote non‑discriminatory environments for LGBT+ people during International Pride Day.

The Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) marked Pride month by painting a rainbow mural on campus pathways, an artistic intervention called “Pintando en Diversidad” that involved students, staff and activists and underscored the university’s commitment to inclusion and safe spaces.

Hermosillo’s municipal government installed a “Sistema Municipal para la Igualdad” to embed gender‑perspective across all city agencies, linking gender‑equality goals with public services, economic autonomy programs for women and violence‑prevention measures.

In Pasto, Colombia, the municipal Secretariat of Women, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identities launched a prevention campaign that teaches the international “hand‑signal” for discreetly requesting help in situations of gender‑based violence, extending protection to women, girls and LGBTI residents.

The Veracruz State Human Rights Commission reported more than 80 visibility and accompaniment actions for the LGBTTTIQ+ community across several municipalities, including marches, cultural events and sensitisation workshops, aiming to combat ongoing discrimination.
