Colombia and Panama face community infrastructure failures

In Valencia, Córdoba, Colombia, the Sarai hanging bridge over the Pirú stream is deteriorating, prompting residents of San Rafael del Pirú and nearby veredas to repair the structure with sandbags, earth and cement while awaiting municipal assistance. The community has asked the local government for heavy machinery and a technical inspection to prevent loss of connectivity between rural settlements.

In the Valle de los Cerezos neighbourhood of Vacamonte, Arraiján District, Panama, a roof collapse in a family home injured no one but left residents fearing further structural failures. Owner Dalys Bosquez described how concrete fragments fell from the ceiling, endangering a child. Similar damage has been reported in other houses, and locals have called for a comprehensive evaluation and prompt action from authorities, noting that previous inspections have not resulted in repairs.
