Colombian criminal leader Alexander Díaz Mendoza, alias Calarcá, charged with multiple crimes
The Colombian Prosecutor's Office has judicially charged Alexander Díaz Mendoza, known as alias Calarcá Córdoba, in absentia. He is alleged to be the top commander of the disident factions of the former FARC, heading the Block Jorge Suárez Briceño, which operates in Meta, Guaviare, Caquetá, Huila and Tolima. The charges include aggravated criminal conspiracy, homicide of a protected person, forced disappearance, torture, and illegal recruitment of minors.
Investigations link Calarcá to three collective murders in Guaviare between January 2025 and January 2026 that left 54 dead, among them 11 minors and seven soldiers. He is also accused of ordering six murders of signatories to the 2016 peace agreement between 2023 and 2025. In November 2023, a merchant was kidnapped, tortured and subsequently disappeared in Meta; his whereabouts remain unknown. Additionally, Calarcá recruited a 14‑year‑old girl in Huila in June 2023 for military training; she escaped in March 2026. The prosecutor says he coordinates armed fronts and illicit economies—narcotics, extortion and illegal mining—across the five departments.
