Animal welfare and rescue efforts reported across Latin America
Various animal welfare initiatives and enforcement actions are being reported across Latin America.
In Colombia, authorities in Antioquia have offered a reward of up to 50 million pesos for information leading to the capture of a person suspected of attacking a dog named ‘Negra’ with a machete in Remedios. Additionally, police in Nariño arrested a woman for alleged animal cruelty following the rescue of a malnourished dog in Córdoba. In Manizales, the Secretariat of the Environment is resuming weekly pet adoption jornadas in the El Cable sector.
In Mexico, the municipality of Querétaro reported over 54,000 free animal welfare services provided during the current administration, including sterilizations and vaccinations. In Puebla, the second edition of ‘Adopta Fest’ resulted in 18 successful adoptions and provided medical services for pets. In other regions, authorities rescued three dogs from a residence in the 2 de Abril neighborhood and 43 dogs from a home in Tlaquepaque.
In Argentina, the Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina is conducting a school competition in Misiones to promote the conservation of the jaguar and the local jungle through student creativity.
