Colombia authorizes 300 billion pesos to address Air-e debt

The Colombian Ministry of Finance has authorized a disbursement of 300 billion pesos to the Business Fund of the Superintendency of Public Services. This measure aims to address the accumulated payment commitments of the electricity company Air-e.

The National Association of Generating Companies (ANDEG) welcomed the decision, noting it shows political will to contain the liabilities of the intervened company. Air-e currently owes the national electrical system a total of 3.5 trillion pesos, with 2.2 trillion pesos specifically owed to thermal generation companies. ANDEG is still awaiting the liquidation of an additional 1.2 trillion pesos previously announced by the Ministries of Finance and Mines.

In addition to systemic debts, Air-e faces significant arrears from public entities in the departments of Atlántico, Magdalena, and La Guajira. These public administrations owe more than 100 billion pesos for official energy consumption. Ramiro Castilla Andrade, a special agent for Air-e, stated that the company is seeking payment agreements with municipal administrations to recover these funds for operational needs and infrastructure investments.
