Colombia awards multi‑billion peso water infrastructure contracts in Ibagué and Santa Marta

The Ibagué Aqueduct Company (IBAL) awarded the contract for Phase 5 of the Complementary Aqueduct, a project valued at over 18.5 billion Colombian pesos, to the Consorcio Acueducto Fase V Ibagué. The work will construct a new conveyance line linking the Ambalá tank to a future storage tank in Santa Ana and expand the distribution network to serve the rapidly growing northern districts of El Salado and Santa Ana. IBAL manager Roberto Santofimio said the project addresses rising water demand from new residential developments and is backed by national housing ministry funds.

In Santa Marta, the municipal development agency EDUS selected the Consorcio Planta Curval to build the El Curval water system, an investment of 410.8 billion pesos. The consortium, comprising Caribbean Region Water Conservancy Engineering, CM Ingeniería y Construcción and CFD Ingeniería, received the highest score in the public tender. Mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello announced the award, describing the project as the most significant water‑supply investment in decades for the city, with construction expected to begin within weeks.
