Colombia beats Uzbekistan 3-1 in World Cup Group K opener
Colombia defeated Uzbekistan 3-1 in the opening match of Group K at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City. Luis Diaz of Bayern Munich opened the scoring in the 65th minute and Jaminton Campaz added a late goal in stoppage time. Uzbekistan equalised through Fayzullaev in the 60th minute, but could not find a further reply.
The result puts Colombia at the top of the group with a match to follow against DR Congo on 24 June, while Uzbekistan will face Portugal on 23 June.
The match was the first World Cup appearance for Uzbekistan, who had taken the field against a Colombian side that dominated possession and created the majority of chances.
