Colombia begins 39th annual Week for Peace

The 39th edition of the 'Semana por la Paz' (Week for Peace) has commenced across various regions in Colombia. This long-standing initiative, which originated in 1987, aims to promote reflection, coexistence, and peaceful conflict resolution.

In Guaviare, activities are being coordinated by the Departmental Peace Council, the San José del Guaviare Mayor's Office, and social organizations. The program includes educational spaces, pedagogical activities in schools, and involvement from entities such as the United Nations, the Agency for Reincorporation and Normalization, and the National Police. A commemorative event for Human Rights Day is scheduled for September 9 to honor victims and disappeared persons from the armed conflict.

In the Eastern Antioquia region, the week runs until September 13 under the motto ‘Peace calls us, moves us, and unites us.’ This regional effort involves the Corporación Vida, Justicia y Paz, the Pastoral Social of the Sonsón-Rionegro Diocese, and various academic and business organizations. The initiative seeks to present peace as a common cause that transcends political differences, encouraging citizens to engage through constructive criticism and the strengthening of civic life.
