Cúcuta authorities launch migration enforcement operations
Colombian authorities have launched their first migration operations in the border city of Cúcuta to identify and deport foreign nationals in irregular situations. These actions follow the presidency of Abelardo de la Espriella and aim to reinforce controls and verify criminal backgrounds in accordance with presidential promises.
The operations are being conducted by the Cúcuta Secretariat of Citizen Security in coordination with the National Police and Migración Colombia. So far, 10 irregular migrants have been expelled, including one individual with an active homicide request in Venezuela.
Edwin Cardona, the Secretary of Citizen Security, stated that the measures are not directed at the Venezuelan population in general, but rather aim to combat crime and individuals who threaten public safety. Authorities emphasized that legal migrants who enter the city for work or commerce continue to have guarantees as long as they comply with legal requirements.
