Colombia conducts National Emergency Response Drill

Colombia executed its National Emergency Response Drill on October 21, involving approximately 95% of the country's territory. Coordinated by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the exercise engaged over 1,000 municipalities and thousands of public and private entities to test response capacities for scenarios such as earthquakes and floods.

In the Casanare department, 51,511 people were evacuated, including 32,307 children and adolescents, 18,942 adults, and 262 people with disabilities. The simulation in Casanare included various scenarios such as a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Yopal, floods in Hato Corozal, and landslides in Támara.

In Cúcuta, more than 30,000 people participated in a simulation of a 6.2 magnitude earthquake, involving over 540 entities. Meanwhile, in Medellín, the Department of Disaster Risk Management (DAGRD) reported participation from over 470,000 people and 2,500 entities.

UNGRD Director David Santiago Tamayo stated the goal was to evaluate services including search and rescue, transport, security, and telecommunications. Preliminary reports indicated over 105,200 participants in the initial data cut, including thousands of animals.
