Colombia Constitutional Court orders medical care for child

The Colombian Constitutional Court has ordered the health provider Famisanar to guarantee surgery and comprehensive treatment for a seven-year-old boy. The child had waited approximately seven months for an operation to correct a bone deformity in his arm caused by a previous fracture. The Court ruled that administrative or contractual difficulties between providers and insurers do not justify delaying prescribed medical care.

In a separate case in Tolima, a family is calling for urgent government and Nueva EPS intervention to transfer a five-year-old boy to a high-complexity hospital. The child, diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1 and a plexiform neurofibroma, has reportedly been waiting 15 days for a referral while experiencing increasing facial pain.
