Colombia coordinates emergency response following Pacific earthquake

Authorities in Colombia are coordinating emergency responses following a recent earthquake in the Pacific region. In Buenaventura, the General Maritime Directorate (DIMAR) has enabled the Maritime Signaling Pier (SEMAP) to host the hospital ship ‘Benkos Biohó’. This vessel is providing medical services, including surgical interventions, to affected populations in coordination with local health secretariats and the Luis Ablanque de la Plata Hospital.

In the department of Risaralda, the regional corporation Cárder is deploying technical and logistical teams to manage risks. Actions include assessing water bodies, evaluating trees and slopes for potential landslides, and monitoring infrastructure vulnerability. Cárder is also providing technical expertise in geology and geotechnics, as well as donating wood to assist in the recovery of damaged homes and infrastructure.
