Colombia Council of State suspends notary competition

The Council of State has suspended the notary competition process initiated by the previous administration. This suspension follows a nullity lawsuit regarding Agreement 01 of August 15, 2025, which aimed to appoint notaries for permanent positions and entry into the notarial career.

The Council of State issued a provisional precautionary measure, preliminarily determining that the agreement may have disregarded legal requirements for public information and citizen participation in the formation of general administrative acts.

This legal setback occurs amid a long-standing vacancy issue; out of 920 existing notaries, 350 are currently serving in interim roles. Additionally, the Comptroller General of the Republic has raised concerns regarding alleged irregularities involving a contract worth 8,127 million pesos with the Universidad Libre.
