However, the repeal does not authorize the immediate resumption of aerial fumigation. These requirements include the creation of a General Environmental Management Plan by the National Authority of Environmental Licenses (ANLA) and the completion of prior consultation processes with ethnic and indigenous communities in the targeted areas.

The decision follows arguments that recent findings from the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Supreme Court suggest glyphosate is unlikely to be carcinogenic, contrasting with previous stances held by the World Health Organization.
