Colombia delivers 100 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba

Colombia sent near 100 tonnes of humanitarian supplies to Cuba aboard the naval vessel ARC Caribe, departing Cartagena on June 5. The mission was coordinated by the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation (APC Colombia) and involved more than ten Colombian ministries and agencies.

The cargo, which arrived in Havana on June 13, comprised non‑perishable food, medicines, hospital supplies, electrical materials, solar panels and basic household items. Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel publicly thanked Colombian President Gustavo Petro and the Colombian people, saying the solidarity “comes in difficult days” caused by the U.S. embargo and recent power shortages.

The aid is intended to help address Cuba’s acute food‑security and energy challenges, worsened by economic hardship, recurring blackouts and damage from Hurricane Melissa. Colombian civil‑society groups also contributed several tonnes of additional supplies.
