Colombia deploys troops for security and holds ID drives
The Colombian National Army has deployed over 300 soldiers to secure roads in Córdoba, Sucre, and the Bajo Cauca region during the October school recess. The 11th Brigade is establishing checkpoints and conducting patrols in tourist and strategic areas to ensure free mobility and order. This security operation includes specialized units from the Gaula Military to prevent kidnapping and extortion, working in coordination with the Navy, National Police, and civil authorities.
Separately, the National Registry (Registraduría Nacional) is conducting a special civil registration and identification campaign across several departments, including Córdoba. In Córdoba, sessions are scheduled for San Pelayo and Caño Viejo to assist citizens with birth certificates, identity cards, and citizenship IDs. This initiative is part of the first 'Week of the Right to Identification' aimed at reaching populations with limited access to these services.
